"Alterations" (chapter 14) is looking to be over 10,000 words or so right now and I'm still working on the final scene for the chapter. There are some pivotal events in this chapter and hopefully a couple surprises. "Reversals" overall is looking like it's going to be a reasonably lengthy novel. Some of my chapters are as long or longer than some of the "books" in the genre I see on Amazon. I find that interesting. By that measure, I'm writing a "book" every 3 months or so! That's pretty good, right? ;) I know, need to finish the entire story and much quicker. Too many distractions in my life. I did line up my critiquer for last weekend and then blew through my deadline. Now I'm aiming for this weekend.
This last scene might surprise me though. It has to be one of the more dramatic moments in the novel. I first envisioned the key plot points of it over a year ago and I'm FINALLY writing it. Characters will be irrevocably changed. Be interesting to see where the characters take it now that I'm finally here.

You should lobby for an assistant. They likely won't want to pay much, but perhaps an intern you could take under your wing, and teach to take care of mundane aspects of your job. (Which I suddenly realized know absolutely nothing about, nor the types of pressure you are under.

Still working on one scene for the chapter. Right or wrong, I tend to write a bit, revise a bit, polish a bit, write some more and so on. I think I'd be better off just writing the chapter in a raw first draft and go back to edit and polish, do the majority of the work in two passes, but I'm not that disciplined yet. Right now my goal is to finish and post Chapter 14 by end of week. This year I want to get much quicker with my writing. I have to find the time even if it means giving up other things for a bit. I want to finish "Reversals" and start a second novel. If I can't do that the Evil Corporation will keep my soul locked in a cubical forever. I'm too young to sell my soul to a corporation. That would be very sad.

Hoping you're down to some spit and polish by now. Seriously wishing you had some available vacation time from the Dreaded Corporate!

I almost feel sorry for him - uh, her. Not going to be "him" much longer, I fear. I hope Samantha talks Julia into taking advantage of some sort of sale, so that Erica ends up with some substantial knockers.

Julia and Pamala wouldn't miss an opportunity to humiliate Erica to be sure ;)

Yes, you're correct about the day job. It's often frustrating but it is neccisary, even if it is soul draining. Pretty things cost money after all ;) Problem is, I'd rather be writing full-time and I'm nowhere near that yet. You're right about inspiration too. There's a special "place" where the magic happens and I have yet to find the keys to turn it on at will. Part of that is the soul draining job and part of that is just me I think. So many stories dancing around in my head waiting to be written I just want to cry sometimes. Enough lamenting... Erica is getting scanned right now... need to push past the scene. :)

We all sympathize with your plight as a struggling writer. The Day ob is not as evil an entity as you think. It puts food on the table and a roof over your pretty (I imagine, anyway) head. On top of that, I do a bit of writing myself, and I know how inspiration can sometimes fizzle out. But you seem to have an outline, and the plot at least loosely mapped out. Can't rush greatness, so take your time! Besides, you are the Woman. It's totally up to you. I think Erica would agree.

Merry Christmas to you too! Was hoping to get the next chapter out before Christmas day as a tiny present to you guys but it might take a little longer :( . I think you guys know my writing schedule is terribly conflicted by my day job and we just got a new director that has been making my life more miserable than ususal, all kinds of demands. I'll see if I can get it out soonest ;)
